On this day in 1943, a 12 year old German Jewish boy, living in the Netherlands, arrived at the Sobibor extermination camp from the Jewish Orphanage, Leiden. 55 children were deported to Sobibor and none survived. His name was Ralph Heinz Protter

1. In Frisian this is commonly known as a 'protter', but one can also refer to it as a 'starring'.
2. A starling/protter can take almost any proverbial shape or form you like

Both brothers were arrested and charged, but Charles's involvement (reflected in the short sentence he received) was mostly that of gullible fool.
David Protter, however, was a consulate security employee - though he told police he was part of a Japanese or Lebanese terrorist group.

Protter made the usual 70s "terrorist demands" - including a plane to have him and the hostages flown out of the country - but was eventually persuaded to surrender.
He also pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 25 years for murder. He was released in 1991.

On 28 April 1975 (coincidentally, also a Monday morning), the Fox Street Siege began in Johannesburg.
Brothers David and Charles Protter took over the Israeli consulate, and by the time the siege ended the next day, 4 people were dead - 2 hostages, 2 bystanders - and more than 40 injured.

No one seems to know if Protter is still alive. Last news had him running a rural security business in the Lowveld, but that was 15 years ago.
It's a wild story.
