My A. E. van Vogt marathon has ended (for now) in reading the 'The Book of Ptath' published in 1947. So that is 23 out of 35 or 36 (depending on the source) books. I'll try, over time, to fill in the gaps, as it would be interesting to read the full oeuvre of a particular author.

Mail call. Looking forward to (re)reading the vintage paperbacks. The history book is more for figuring out how teaching will work in the future, now that everything old is new again.

I haven't read PTATH, but I liked ISHER. SLAN was very disappointing, and the handful of other books by him I've read are all very similar in that there's some mysterious new human mental power someone or some group has, and then there are conspiracies and counter-conspiracies. There's a whiff of

SLAN is a classic of the genre, and while I don't think it holds up, it probably is good for those reading up on the history of sci fi to read. THE WEAPON-SHOPS OF ISHER is worth reading. THE BOOK OF PTATH is interestingly nuts. I wouldn't recommend anything from his Dianetics period.

Two Hundred Million A.D. (The Book of Ptath) is, by the way, van Vogt's only dull Golden Age novel. It's stuck in the older mode of A. Merritt and Edgar Rice Burroughs; the brilliance of van Vogt in this period is present only as details around the fringe of the story, like the wooden tech.

Ptath, a very powerful god, is thrown by his deadly rival, the goddess Ineznia, on Earth, around 200,000,000 AD, in the form of a mortal, where he has to face numerous dangers to survive.
