Woke feeling a little like I jumped from a bridge into a small boat. Twice.

It is #puntcon tomorrow and I am burning a lot of intra-partner childcare tokens to go. See you there?

The best unconference is PuntCon. There are no talks, no keynotes, no awkward coffee breaks. Just ducks, punts, picnics, and the river Cam.

It’s usually held around June/July (@smithsam.bsky.social)

Had the best time at Puntcon, idling up the river Cam with lovely arts and tech people curated by the legendary Bill Thompson. I had to swim (part time selkie) but only very upriver and def did NOT put my head under cos of the appalling UK water pollution levels
Lauren Beukes and Annette Mees on a punt on the river cam, smiling and wearing sunglasses. An out of focus figure on the bank behind them Sunlight and reflections of trees on the river Cam. A punt full of cool and interesting people up river B&W Lauren Beukes very happy being a seal swimming in the river cam / photo by Gordon Tant Puntcon friends - a group of tech and arts people enjoying the river on a punt

Well, #puntcon turned into the most glorious afternoon. Great company, beautifully curated (more pics in due course)
River water reflected under a bridge in Cambridge, with punts in the distance, heading for Grantchester Two punts full of happy people in Cambridge 6 people on the river bank in Grantchester, the central figure is holding a punting pole and having a good old pose for the camera Punting down the Cam in Cambridge, coming through leafy trees in the late afternoon light

I had a very nice time at #PuntCon yesterday, punting along the Cam and chatting with all sorts of folks over a mellow picnic.

Thanks to @billt.bsky.social and @smithsam.bsky.social for organising!
In the foreground, the corner of a punt is visible. Beyond this is the river Cam, trees overhanging from its banks. Further along the river, two more large punts full of people are visible. In the foreground, a metal punt pole agitates the water of the river, which is close to the camera. Beyond this, two more punts approach the grassy riverbank of a meadow. The sun is bright overhead despite the cloudy sky. A bend in the river Cam, viewed from a grassy bank. The vegetation along the banks is lush, although the grass in the foreground is half brown. Visible in the river are a couple of parked punts and an accompanying pole, distant kayakers, and a very small jetty.

#puntcon 2024 as ever a blast with an eclectic bunch that might have involved bridge climbing and swimming of sorts plus the usual imbibing - more to follow
Lauren enjoying a swim but definitely not drinking the contents Coming into dock @billt navigates the waterways Documentally is rather nimble and proficient at climbing the bridges Getting in the water is so much easier than getting out.

Weirdest pushback in conversation today at Puntcon was when me and another guy said that "posters are bad".

There was bridge climbing, of course #puntcon
@documental.ly preparing to climb over a bridge and rejoin the punt before it's too late Documental.ly succeeding in climbing a bridge on the river Cam Another successful landing after the bridge climb (not shown, the stream of cyclists who passed by at just the wrong moment, requiring some nifty footwork)

Was really hoping to get to #Puntcon this Sunday but public transport in the UK leaves a lot to be desired. I can get there it seems but not back. :-/

Puntcon sounds delightful!
Is it open to new attendees? If so, how do I get my email address onto the mailing list?
