#Pupillometry
If you analyse time-resolved data (M/EEG, iEEG, pupillometry, force recordings…) and feel limited by cluster-based permutation tests (CBPTs); especially when trying to determine when an effect starts or ends; you may want to try our new R package: lnalborczyk.github.io/neurogam/
#rstats #brms #EEG
Modelling time-resolved electrophysiological data with Bayesian generalised additive multilevel models
Providing utility functions for fitting Bayesian generalised additive multilevel models (BGAMMs) to time-resolved data (e.g., M/EEG, pupillometry, mouse-tracking, etc) and identifying clusters.

Have you thought of using unchained pupillometry to infer effort/arousal with _uncontrolled_ visual stimulation? Sounds crazy?
@yuqingc.bsky.social shows that convolutional modeling of pupil responses with gaze-contingent luminance changes finally allows just that!

Imagine trying to run a pupillometry study on a goat eye. All our mathematical models of the pupil are spherical. I’ll just bust loose with a rectangle

Years went into the large-scale study that honed the cognitive load algorithm for HP Omnicept, measuring pupillometry, saccade, gaze direction, and heart-rate variability. 738 participants, 4 continents, ages 19-61, tasks varying in cognitive load. Now published!

6/7 Neither binocular-rivalry priming tasks nor pupillometry tasks, such as imagining a bright light and measuring whether the pupil constricts, show effects strong and reliable enough to serve as objective diagnostic tests.

Over the last year, we have been building something new in our lab: dual pupillometry & eye-tracking, led by pioneering post-doc Velisar Manea. Here we are using it to measure infant and caregiver pupil and gaze response simultaneously to the same event. Baby in red, mum in blue.

An exciting MEG+pupillometry study by @quiringehmacher.bsky.social demonstrating coordination between mechanisms mediating perception and learning. Sensory cortex tracks prediction error continuously in a graded manner, while the brainstem only responds once crossing a threshold. Excellent summary👇
New preprint w/ @akalt.bsky.social, Juliane Schubert, Nathan Weisz, & @clarepress.bsky.social 🎉

Predictive-brain accounts treat "prediction error" as one signal. We find it's two jobs, in two dissociable systems. And one of them you can watch in the pupil, as people listen to a story. 🧵 (1/9)

@anavili.bsky.social ⭐ once again uses pupillometry to address a fundamental open question in vision science: can covert attention be deployed within afterimages? The answer is: yes ✅ #science #vision #pupillometry #preprint 👇
⚡Does attention operate *inside* an afterimage?⚡
We show that it does and that this is reliably tracked by the pupil! Once again, the pupil proves to be a pretty amazing window into the mind👁️, but what does this mean for attention? Check out our preprint! www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6... @cogsci.nl
