The real goal of the initiative is to restrict Switzerland’s ability to impose sanctions on belligerent states. After Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022, Switzerland followed EU sanctions. A few months later, Christoph Blocher launched the initiative.
