New Delhi, Sep 25 (SocialNews.XYZ) The Delhi High Court has held that Medical Assessment Boards assessing candidates for admission to the MBBS course cannot interfere with or reduce the percentage of disability recorded in a valid Unique Disability Identity (UDID) card, and must confine themselves to assessing the candidate’s functional competency. A single-judge Bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh made the observation while allowing two petitions filed by NEET-UG 2026 candidates, whose disability percentages were reduced by Medical Assessment Boards during the admission process, resulting in their removal from the Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) category.

Under the revised criteria, qualifying percentile for general and EWS candidates has been reduced from 50th to 7th percentile, and for general persons with benchmark disability (PwBD) from 45th to 5th percentile. UPSC introduces ‘centre of choice’ for PwBD candidates across all exams The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has announced a major reform in its examination centre allocation process for persons with benchmark disabilities (PwBD), introducing a guaranteed ‘Centre of Choice’ facility across all competitive tests it conducts. Under the new policy, PwBD applicants will be assured the examination centre they select in their application form, even if the centre has reached its regular seat capacity for other candidates.

Staff Selection Commission The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has issued an important update on the formats of disability certificates to be submitted by Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) for upcoming and ongoing recruitment examinations. The revision follows new guidelines released by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD) on 16 October 2024. Under the updated system, the disability certificate structure has been streamlined into two categories, replacing the earlier three-form model used by the Commission.

Bhubaneswar: In a significant step towards promoting social inclusion and empowering persons with disabilities, the state government has issued comprehensive guidelines for awarding marriage incentives to couples where one spouse is a Person with Benchmark Disability (PwBD). The Social Security and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (SSEPD) department has fixed the incentive amount at Rs 2.5 lakh for eligible couples.

NEET UG 2026 re-examination to be held on June 21, 2026. The portal for submitting scribe details by the PwD/PwBD candidates closes today at 11:50 pm.

Candidates with benchmark disabilities will now be able to appear for all competitive examinations at the centres selected in their application.
