Well one reason is that the Hebrew word for “cup” is “kos.”
While it is not exactly the same - an aspirated kaph rather than an emphatic qoph - it has been suggested, and I personally believe it, that this is meant to have a dual meaning. “Just as Y… has passed from us, Qos will pass from you”

For those who need help with the Hebrew, I’ll give some context: this should say חוסה על עמלך - have mercy upon that for which You toiled.
But a replacement of a kaph with a qoph makes it “have mercy on Amalek.” Something which we are expressly forbidden from doing.
