Daffy Duck's Quackbusters (Greg Ford & Terry Lennon, 1988; Warner Bros.) - 7/10

This Looney Tunes movie is funny. Bit of a slog but it still has its moments

Wow, you did a good job pitching up the voices!

I remember watching Daffy Duck's Quackbusters as a kid (I was born in 2002) and finding it kind of weird how Daffy and Porky sounded (unaware that Mel Blanc was almost 80 when doing this as this was one of his final times voicing these characters).
Remembering that one Looney Tunes movie where they forgot to pitch up Mel Blanc’s voice for certain characters so I did it for them

Happy Anniversary to Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters!

We covered it all the way back in 2021, in what is frankly my favorite of our coverage of the compilation films!

“Daffy Duck’s Quackbusters”, the final #LooneyTunes compilation movie, was released on this day in 1988.

Directed by Greg Ford and Terry Lennon, it made a strong effort combining new and classic animation. It’s one of Mel Blanc’s last theatrical outings until he passed in 1989.

"Night of the Living Duck", directed by Greg Ford and Terry Lennon, was released on this day in 1988.

This is the last official #LooneyTunes short to have Mel Blanc voicing one of his characters. It was screened in front of Daffy Duck's Quackbusters.

Daffy sings like Mel Tormé in this one.

I believe it cones from the 1987 short The Duxorcist, which was also shown in the movie Quackbusters ^^

Daffy Duck's Quackbusters

I like Looney Tunes. I like ghost stories. When you mix them together you get one really funny movie with some of my favorite shorts. Plus I love Daffy Duck. My second favorite Looney Tunes character

Rain turned on an old Siskel and Ebert for Quackbusters and the concenus was litterly just that; that was 1988... tbf there was an effort to do theaterical shorts a couple times a year in the 90s, but its been the popular opinion forever we need theaterical shorts back lol

I like Quackbusters its charming we just watched it tonight, the original linking footage sometimes is kinda shockingly really well animated; this was a year before his passing but god can you hear Mel Blanc's age in those lol

If I have one complaint about Coyote vs Acme, it’s that there wasn’t an unrelated looney tunes short before the movie

I saw Quackbusters in the theater and we walked in after the short had started. I was confused when it ended and the movie started. I was 8

I think the funniest thing to come out of Quackbusters is the knowledge that Dr Jekyll's office is right next door and Daffy "Monster-Catching" Duck never noticed...

That's your takeaway from this 🤣

Quackbusters was decent but man, Daffy gets treated like shit towards the end...

Man Quackbusters was kind of done dirty lol

Mel's last Looney Tunes role was Daffy Duck's Quackbusters and you can definitely tell the disconnect between the old shorts and the interstitial segments where you can tell he's aged a ton

Quackbusters is such a gem of a Looney Tunes film

Actually wait a minutes you didn’t realize that Quackbusters (and Daffy’s business in general) is basically a parody of Ghostbusters? (Minus the Unlicensed nuclear accelerators on the back LOL)

Is that why Porky sounded deeper in Quackbusters?

The other thing with Quackbusters was Daffy/Porky's voices weren't as sped up in there but that's a gaff with how much it was sped up. The Warner Catalog produced around the same time did have Daffy's voice more sped up.

I will counter argue with Quackbusters, his performance there wasn't any worse than usual for the time...the problem is that Ford/Lennon did such a good job imitating how the shorts looked in the framing segments that Mel's voice sticks out even more.
