if you did not pay sticker price for publication software like indesign or quarkxpress, i think it's pretty bold of you to get snotty about people not paying sticker price for your books
piracy is a completely aspirational problem for any author in america to have and i think anyone trying to stake out an anti-piracy position is a demon full stop

Archival research feels like it’s full of these, but then there’s always one throwback archive with a microfiche machine or a paper catalogue (or, indeed: NARA)

Summer of '95 I had a job assembling single-use film cameras, which I did enough that I can still perform the actions. I don't think they even sell them anymore, but even if they do I'm certainly never going to be making them again!

compare and contrast with cuomo's limpwristed attempt - boring black weight type in boring rectangles in boring CMYK colors with rail-thin strokes. it promises less than the minimum, eyes that see nothing, the status quo assembled in QuarkXPress

Ich habe als Schüler die Kreisligatabellen ausgerechnet und in QuarkXpress eingetippt. Dem trauere ich wirklich nicht nach. Aber wenn ein paar Leute nur noch PMs durchwinken, ist es kein Journalismus mehr. Auch nicht lokal.

QuarkXPress used to have a special keyboard combination (I think it was cmd+opt+shift+k) that would cause a little alien or robot to march on screen & zap the selected item with a laser & vaporize it, complete with sound effects.
