As it's the the most spooky time of the year, I've whipped up a little re-introduction to me (and a new profile picture too).

What are some things about you that are horror, Gothic, or spooky-themed? 💙📚 🌈📚 #queerAdultSFF #darkfiction

A cropped selfie of me wearing my vampire Halloween costume of frilly black clothing and crimson dripping from my eyes and mouth, and the listed text: - Vampire-obsessed. Seriously. 10/10 would romance a vamp IRL if the opportunity arised.
- Is enthralled by Frankenstein’s Creature (no, me?), and would fist-fight Victor, even though he’d win.
- My favorite scary movies/TV shows are Blood Red Sky, The Exorcist, Frankenstein, Nosferatu, Penny Dreadful, and No One Lives.
- I’ve written so many dark stories to In This Moment and Sleep Token.
- Depending on the mask the serial/seasoned killer is wearing, I would.
- I will not watch a movie where the cat dies. Sorry, Obsession. Will not. I also have an issue with any sort of animal deaths in fiction.
- I would not be the “final girl” character. I’d be the one lusting after the killer to survive the night.
- The darker, more psychologically complex the yum, the tastier it is. Predator/prey (chase and capture) is ideal but I’m so slow.

"Games of Thrones meets Mr. Rogers"

Step into the City of Spires, where merchant families vie for power through shows of wealth and a little backstab ✨

Bonus: it's a complete series! Four chonky queer fantasy books for your enjoyment.

#QueerAdultSFF 🌈📚

A spread of four books with covers that all depict towers in different architectural styles with a colourful sky as the background (pale blue, orange, purple, and green respectively). Above is the title “Isandor, the City of Spires” and below are descriptions in beige and brown circles. Those read: large cast political fantasy with kindness at its core, messy and wholesome platonic relationships, unparalleled concentration of aros and aces, and four chunky books.

Just three newly-met friends going on an adventure that will change their lives.

THE CHRONICLES OF NEREZIA is a classic quest story full of all the things I love: queer found families, board/card games, side quests, and funky worldbuilding!

#QueerAdultSFF ♠️🌈📚 💙📚

A picture with an orange background and the cover for Awakenings, on which three friends look out at a red-sand desert road, towards a domed city.
Your story is my story…
In which … an optimist with countless failed apprenticeships, an anxious lizard artificer, and an amnesiac elf traverse a haunted world in a magical, sentient Wagon to unravel the mystery behind the elf’s missing memories (and play lots of board games).
An earnest love letter to JRPGs steeped in an aro/ace -normative world

white text on a blue night sky background that reads: praise for The Dragon Next Door. “a perfect choice if you are looking for a sapphic romantasy with a really natural progression, and a cast of well-fleshed characters that will steal your heart.” - Jamedi; “This book was a delight to read, a cozy queer escape I didn't know I needed.” - Madeline Konrad; “if you’re into cozy fantasy, two strong, females who have the best relationship and a great magic system with an epic adventure, then this is a book for you.” - Mellie's Book Corner; “If you like dragons, aces, and cozy fantasy, The Dragon Next Door is worth checking out. an inset square with two woman doing magic. white text on a blue night sky background that reads: Advance praise from NetGalley reviewers for The Dragon Next Door. [The MCs] navigate stolen dragon eggs, political intrigue, and *feelings*. Bee and Tollar were really fascinating characters. the duo’s mutual pining and odd-couple banter steal the show. Characters who feel real and make you feel things. imperfect/flawed characters who experience growth.

white text on a blue night sky background that reads: Advance praise from NetGalley reviewers for The Dragon Next Door. The romance is soft, ace-inclusive, and simmering with “just kiss already” energy, while the plot zips along. a story that’s equal parts heart and fire. The world building is top tier with a solid amount of political intrigue. cozy fantasy with a strong emotional core, queer rep done right. The world-building is immersive but effortless… What truly shines is the focus on community and resilience.

For all of my Dark Romance, #queerAdultSFF, paranormal fiction connoisseurs who dabble (or deep-dive) into the erotic slasher genre, I'm realizing that I'm no longer sure if my WIP is a "slasher" even though there are final girl characters, death (but some is off-page), and a grim ending. Thoughts?

Ezra Arndt @arndtezra.bsky.social · Sep 13

Dear writers/readers of erotic slashers,

How do you cope with a small cast and only two of the main characters are slated to die, another ends up basically dead, and the remaining two severely traumatized? Because I'm struggling to figure out if the slasher genre fits my WIP. Advice is welcome.
