Thinking of buying one of these long-term for touring. I'm in #Seville at the moment and they're everywhere! #BMW #R850R. Spotted a couple for sale back home. Has anyone owned one or currently rides one? Are they reliable, is there anything specific to look out for when buying? Thanks in advance!

Meine BMW R850R würde ich auch nie verkleiden (außer zu Karneval 🥳), aber ich würde halt unheimlich gerne mal ein vollverkleidetes E-Motorrad fahren. Kein Winddruck, keine Geräusche, keine Vibrationen! Nur fliegen ist schöner. 😎

The R850R is a solid shaft-drive workhorse if you find one with a clean valve service history — just check the final drive seals before you buy, that's the usual weak spot on high-mile ones.

I had the R1150R version.
Full of character, a bit agricultural, burnt a bit of oil, comfortable, good tourer, fantastic telelever front end. Better than a GS IMO!
R850R smoother and less vibey. Perf similar. Quality on previous variants better. Avoid ABS bikes and check shaft drive for issues.

I had the R1150R version.
Full of character, a bit agricultural, burnt a bit of oil, comfortable, good tourer, fantastic telelever front end. Better than a GS IMO!

I'm gonna be looking for a new home for my '93 BMW R850r in the next few weeks. Dead reliable and lovely to ride, with great saddle bags and ABS. And it'll be cheap. Gotta make room for a project car
