Science peeps: Looks like SciENcv updated the digital certificate used to sign Biosketch and Current & Pending documents without notification. The old certificate expires Saturday, September 26, 2026.

SciENcv docs before that date may fail validation in eRA Commons delaying or blocking submission.

Several canceled grant programs (CCI, LSAMP) are now showing up on grants.gov. Are the grants really back, or were RFPs released with no intention of funding these programs? Any thoughts appreciated. #radminsky

Research Administrators in higher education, are you experiencing layoffs in your department? Are downsizing discussions underway? #radminsky

Scoop: DOGE now controls how grant opportunities get posted across government.

DOGE engineer removed users’ permissions to post to Grants-dot-gov without telling them. Now requests flow thru DOGE-controlled mailbox.

DOGE takes over federal grants website, wresting control of billions
A DOGE engineer removed users’ access to grants.gov, threatening to further slow the process of awarding thousands of federal grants per year.

Today's NEH email: "NEH is currently preparing guidance, instructions, and a grant reinstatement form for affected award recipients. NEH will share additional information as it becomes available. Please continue to monitor your eGMS Reach account for forthcoming updates and instructions." #RAdminSky

For everyone trying to login to eGMS Reach to see their NEH message, it just says that they are notifying us of the court’s Opinion and Order — “NEH will update you with further information as it becomes available.”

As some of you may know... we're down $5m and may or may not ever claw any of it back. So, we're writing new grants.

If anyone would be willing to share a funded application for
- NSF CAREER or NIH DP2 that is 100% dry lab-based
- NSF BIO Capacity: Infrastructure

I will owe you a coffee forever!

NEW: NSF has been funding research at a fraction of its historic rate. Last week, the agency finally began distributing money to its directorates and is now likely to pick up the grantmaking pace.

But these allocations also amount to substantial cuts across the sciences. My reporting:
Delays have kept new NSF grants to a trickle — that could be about to change
The agency is finally ready to distribute a spate of new grants, but it is also preparing substantial cuts to areas such as biological and social sciences.

Been a rough year for federally funded scientists, and I hate to add another tab to this spreadsheet. So far, the shutdown has resulted in cancellation of 161 CSR study sections. 🧪https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1lLEx14q7HKrlYahQYJaN6aHKpMqSMJwX4aenyL5g_ZU/edit?usp=sharing

Here is a plot in terms of PROJECTS rather than dollars. I am using projects rather than awards so that projects that received supplements do not get double-counted.

While the FY25 curve is improving, it seems that the number of funded projects will drop by 3000-4000 compared with FY24.

If you weren't angry enough already, here are the rates of non-competitive renewals through May.

4008 Non-competitive renewals were due to be funded in May.

The total funded was 99!

Some is due to terminations, but most is due to slow grant making due to DOGE review and other impediments.
