Feeling a bit of pressure from so many new followers :o

Expect irregular posts about small-scale travel around southwestern Germany, niche nerdy rail facts and my opinions mainly on transport and urbanism.

Here's some pics from last Sunday, my first time on the Odenwald railway and in Darmstadt ☺️
A double class 615 Bombardier Itino diesel multiple unit (nos. 118 and 103) at Eberbach station in the extreme north of Baden-Württemberg. It's painted mostly white, with a red front and a big red stripe on the top part of the body. There's a hall with a white hall on the right, and a not well maintained island platform with a short roof on the left. In the background some wooded hills in late autumn. It's quite a small class of trains, only 57 of them were ever made. They're an evolution of the popular RegioShuttle RS1 railcar. This train will run as the 12:38 RB82 service from Eberbach to Frankfurt (Main) Hbf via Erbach (Odenwald), Groß Umstadt-Wiebelsbach and Darmstadt Nord, a journey of about two hours. It's operated by VIAS Rail on behalf of RMV and the state of Baden-Württemberg. The section between Eberbach and Erbach is served every two hours every day, with more services north of there. At Eberbach a connection is made to the half-hourly Rhein-Neckar S-Bahn (lines S1, S2) to Mosbach, Osterburken, Heidelberg and Mannheim, and also to the two-hourly RE10a service to Mannheim and Heilbronn. View from inside the train in the previous image to the outside. There's a slight mirroring effect in the window. A rundown no longer in use station building made from red bricks for a small rural halt can be seen - Hetzbach station, also known as Beerfelden-Hetzbach. There's another track visible, indicating this used to be a proper station, but the other track is no longer active. On the other track's platform, there's a rather old sign with the station name, possibly from the 80s or earlier. Behind that a small forgotten diesel engine is standing next to the former goods shed. Inside the rather old station building of Darmstadt Nord (North), where I got off the RB82 before it heads non-stop to Frankfurt. It does not in fact stop at Darmstadt central station, but there's a tram connection here. A doorway with two open rather old-fashioned doors are visible, with a staircase behind them leading down to one of the platforms. A modern sign above the door points towards Groß Umstadt-Wiebelsbach, Eberbach, Darmstadt Hbf and Pfungstadt. Several walls in the picture are graffitied Darmstadt Nord (North) station from the outside is on the right. It's located on the side of a road bridge spanning the railway here. There's two dedicated tram tracks in the centre of the road and I'm standing south of the bridge where a tram stop is located, which is accessed via a signalised pedestrian crossing. On the tram line, a really modern class ST15 tram of the Stadler Tina type (no. 22110) is just arriving heading towards the city centre. It's painted in a colour halfway between yellow and orange, the new signature colour of HEAG mobilo, the Darmstadt municipal transport company. It's operating a route 8 service from Arheilgen to Alsbach Am Hinkelstein, which is a long interurban line continuing south from Darmstadt along a string of several villages. In total, the journey takes almost an hour.
