2. This is based in a single court case in Ireland, and is common misinformation. US bread is not considered cake and the vast majority contains comparable sugar levels (none or 2-3g) to France, which exports bread to the EU regularly.

There's a fascinating history of attempts to prohibit certain disclosures because they'll make people care about the wrong things (genetic engineering of ingredients; giving rBST to cows). I can't wait for the FTC warning to Amazon!
OK, I'm confused. If you want to use tariffs to encourage US consumers to buy American products, wouldn't explicitly displaying the tariff costs of imported stuff be exactly what you should be doing?

Like the EU, Canada has standards that disallow the use of hormones during meat production. The US could sell all the meat it wants to the EU if the US can show the production met EU standards.
Canadian dairy is all rBST free and is a non-federally subsidized industry.

When I came home to Canada, I was so confused why none of the milk had “No bovine growth hormone” labeling. I kept searching and searching!
Turns out rBST is straight-up not permitted in Canada, so the lack is universal.

Source of concern: hormone usage, cow illnesses, antibiotic treatments. In the US, #rBST artificial hormones can be used to increase milk production in dairy cows. In #Canada, the use of rBST is prohibited by law, making all Canadian milk naturally free from this artificial hormone. #SCM #USMCA

This is exactly my fucking point. I don’t say “I want healthier food” I say, “farmers should not be able to use artificial growth hormones like RBST.” I don’t say, “I want stricter gun laws”, I say “I want a magazine capacity limit” (or whatever).
