Financing SDGs: Perspectives from the Global South | Tenth anniversary of #SDGs | #NABFID | #RECLtd.
The global SDG financing gap has nearly doubled since pre-COVID-19, rising from USD 2.5 trillion to USD 4.2 trillion annually (UN Financing for Sustainable Development Report 2024). In recognition of the tenth anniversary of the UN's adoption of the #SDGs, GGGI convened global speakers from #NABFID, Ministry of Finance, #REC Ltd., Ministry of Power, Government of India, #CPI, and GGGI to discuss how these critical financing needs are being addressed for both climate adaptation and mitigation.
Of USD 4.2 trillion, clean energy needs alone account for USD 2.2 trillion every year, covering renewables, energy efficiency, and transition technologies that power SDG 7 (Affordable & Clean Energy) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Meanwhile, USD 1.1 trillion worth of financing is required globally for biodiversity conservation, encompassing a wide range of investments, such as nature conservation, sustainable fishing, ocean pollution control, water & sanitation, food & agriculture, and sustainable forestry.
