Day 10: IBM TeraDrive.
1991.

Designed by Sega and built by IBM, this Japanese only PC came with a built in Mega Drive. Sega hoped that adding a Mega Drive would attract potential PC customers. But the system was a commercial failure.

Obscure Console Christmas Advent.
Day 6: NEC PC-KD863G monitor.
1988.

A monitor for NEC's computer range, that also contained a PC-Engine console. This provided the best way to play PCE games at the time, as a RGB connection was used rather than the standalone consoles RF.

Day 3: iQue Player
2003 - 2016

Nintendo released a plug and play version of the N64 for the Chinese market. It was an attempt to navigate around the Chinese console ban and piracy markets by having downloadable games saved to flash cards.

Day 13: Sony PSX
2003.

This Japanese exclusive device is a digital video recorder with an integrated PS2. Its high cost meant it was a commercial failure. Its encrypted hard drive means consoles are rendered unusable once they fail.

Day 16: Mattel Hyperscan
2006 - 2007.

The console that pioneered NFC as a game mechanic with the use of scanable collectable cards to add in game content .However unpowered 2D hardware, huge load times and limited games doomed it within 1 year.

Day 20: Nuon
2000 - 2004

The Nuon was a licenable hardware standard designed to turn your DVD player into a home console. Just 8 games were released for the format. Pictured is the Samsung's DVD-N2000.

Day 5: Zeebo
2009 - 2011

Designed for developing markets such as Brazil and Mexico, the Zeebo is an entertainment and education system enabling users to play games, go online and send email. It even had a port of Resident Evil 4.

Obscure Christmas Advent.
Day 2: Pioneer Lazeractive. 1993 - 1996.

This machine is in fact a LaserDisc player but with the addition of an expansion slot. What sets this apart was the release of two PAC modules that enabled users to play Mega Drive or PC Engine games.

Day 24: JVC Victor RG-M1 Wondermega.
1992

The first combined Mega Drive/Mega CD console on the market, the Japanese only Wondermega from JVC also included karaoke features.

A cost reduced version, the RG-M2, also had a US release as the JVC X'Eye.

Day 22: View-Master Interactive Vision
1989

A VHS videogame system with the most outrageous controller ever seen. A VHS video plays footage on which the console then overlays graphics and different soundtracks.

Obscure Console Christmas Advent.
Day 12: NEC Turbografx.
1993.

This is the PAL version of the TG-16, intended for Europe. however after the failure of the TG-16 in the U.S. the release is cancelled. Consoles already manufactured are sold off to distributors. No PAL games are produced.

Day 14: Amstrad GX4000.
1991.

Amstrad's only games console, which sold just 15000 units. Despite being a competent machine, the lack of games, comparative price, poor marketing, and the stigma of being 8-bit led to its failure.

Day 8: Divers 2000 CX-1.
2000.

A combination TV and Dreamcast developed by Fuji and Sega for release only in Japan. It came bundled with the Dreamcast camera, keyboard and remote control.

A real rarity!

Day 15: Casio Loopy
1995 - 1998.

The Japanese only Loopy was a 32-bit console aimed primarily at female gamers. The integrated colour printer allowed you to make stickers from your screenshots. An add on let you do this with home video and photos too.

Day 19: Gizmondo
2005 - 2006.

Despite ambitious promises, over spending on extravagant launch parties, links to the Swedish mafia, fraud, crashed Ferarris, bankruptcy meant this console lasted just 10 months on the market.

It is now also very sticky.

Day 17: Gamate
1990 - 1994.

The first cut price competitor to the Game Boy, Bit Corp's Gamate was released globally. Although solidly built compared to other Taiwanese handhelds, it's screen suffered from horrendous ghosting.

An open technology platform designed by Apple, and licenced to 3rd parties such as Bandai.

Day 18: Fujitsu FM Towns Marty
1993 - 1995.

A console version of the FM Towns computer, often touted as the first 32-bit machine on the market. It was a failure due to cost and weak games. A cheaper Marty 2 did not improve sales enough to save it.

Day 9: Hitachi Hi-Saturn Navi.
1995.

Probably the most outrageous Saturn released, the Hi-Saturn Navi had karaoke ports, GPS antenna ports and video/audio in ports. The separate screen could be used for in car navigation!

Day 11: Sharp Famicom Titler
1989.

A Famicom produced under licence by Sharp. This machine is unique due to its ability to allow you to add onscreen subtitles and drawings to games and home videos using a track pad and stylus.

Because why not.

Day 7: Linguaphone Education Gear
1994?

You may be aware of the Multi Mega, Sega's Mega Drive/CD hybrid. Not so familiar is that in Japan it was released under licence by lanquage company Linguaphone, possibly as a teaching tool. Very little is known.

Day 21: Sanyo 3DO TRY.
1995

We may be familiar with the 3DO open technology platform, with Panasonic producing the FZ-1 and FZ-10 variant.

However this is the more uncommon Sanyo Try 3DO, a version only released in Japan.

Day 23: Casio PV-1000
1983-1984

Casio's 1st games console, it was obsolete upon launch. Based on 2nd gen tech, it was competing with the Famicom and SG-1000. It was discontinued less than 1 year later with just 13 games released.

Great design though.

Obscure Console Christmas Advent.
Day 4: Watara Supervision
1992 - 1993.

Launched as a cut price competitor to the Game Boy, the Supervision cost just $50 instead of the GB's $90. It could even connect to a TV. Blurry screen and poor game quality led to its failure.
