Great article that leaves out one interesting point: Trump’s 2024 gains in the RGV came on top of earlier gains he made in the 2020 election. The region had been trending towards him for multiple election cycles which makes this reversal all the more noteworthy

The big thing too is when CBP was hiring people from the RGV and turning Haitians and Venezuelans away, it was ok. When ICE became unleashed “Born in East LA”-style and Mexican Americans themselves started feeling unsafe and feeling the federal government was coming after *them*, everything changed.
