I somehow missed The Phantom Tollbooth as a child, but it is a wonderful book. One that my daughter and I still reread is Passionella - so very sweet and funny. Some of the other stories in the book are much darker, but brilliant.

And yes, dear reader, I watched the Popeye musical tonight with a double-shot of cheap whiskey, and then impulse-bought a used copy of the original soundtrack on vinyl because That's. Just. Who. I. Yam.

holy crap, jules feiffer too? his weekly strips in the voice, and everything after, were golden nuggets of hard-won political insight and social satire. 2025 is remorseless.

Jules Feiffer, cartoonist of acerbic wit and satire, dies at 95
He found his voice in comics that provided a sardonic and sarcastic takedown of authority and conventional wisdom. He was also a playwright and screenwriter.
