Stem separation stopped being a novelty and became an actual workflow step. My pick: Live 12's built-in separation for quick vocal pulls, RipX when I need surgical edits.
What's yours:
- Live 12 built-in
- Lalal.ai
- RipX
- iZotope RX Music Rebalance

Although RipX is better suited for Precision~based Stem Editing, VirtualDJ 08's handling of stems does have some relevant benefit for Realtime Mixing at Live events; I would still say that RipX is mandatory for Studio Album work, but for Nightclubs and Broadcasting VDJ 08 benefits strongly on stems.

One thing that I will give VirtualDJ 08 credit for, even in spite of its ongoing handicaps over 07: Compared to how Hit 'n Mix's RipX handles Audio Stems and Vocal/Instrument Separation, Atomix gets close to the same quality without the brutal CPU usage, and can make better use of the Radeon VII.
My stance still stands: VirtualDJ 08 has been around since 20I4, yet the very problems that pushed me away from utilizing it full~time over Version 07 still remain even in the 2026 Edition of it (Build 9295); Version 07's DSP Phaser and DSP Reverb sound so much better that I refuse to ever use 08's.

Have you tried RipX? That can sometimes be helpful, you might be able to demo it at least

RipX is a pretty good commercial option - stem separation, then write to MIDI (if you want). They have a free trial if you want to try it out

Ozone is for mastering so prolly not a good comparison.
A better example is Melodyne, plus select vocoders. Not an auto tune fan. RipX DAW is good too.
Can see the appeal for GenAI but it's a parasite.

Any track you like of his - use a STEM splitter to grab the vocals, et voila!
2 pieces of software which have trials for this are RipX Daw and DJ.Studio. Give it a go. 😉

i mean, yes. they bought a pretty advanced browser-based DAW that has lots of features no native DAWs have yet. they are arguably beyond RipX which is kind of the closest native equivalent. some may say blurring these lines is even more evil, but they are definitely a real pro DAW company now

watching smaller youtubers is interesting because this guy is getting sponsored by RipX DAW PRO which is obviously just like uvr or spleeter being packaged and sold
