A truly awful decision. I participated in one of the short courses (Zooarch II) this year & it was exceptional! Extraordinary instructors, intense learning & community-building. The decision needs reversing
@sheffielduni.bsky.social management should be ashamed. #RIPshortcourses #Zooarchaeology🏺🧪🦊 🪶

We're sad to inform you that management at the University of Sheffield has asked us to discontinue our very popular #zooarchaeology shortcourses. Unfortunately one of our most enlightening piece of community engagement, which also brought funds to manage our labs, has gone @sheffielducu.bsky.social

I've taken an hour or so to wind down, but nope, I am still furious about this enormously short-sighted decision. There are so few ways to learn about specialist archaeological skills outside of a degree, and this was a demonstration of what COULD be done. 1/2 #RIPshortcourses

This sort of teaching ISN'T hugely profitable, not financially. Anyone who works in community archaeology knows that. The profit turns up spread around, in a world where archaeologists are better skilled and better connected. Dammit, Sheffield, dammit. Please rethink this. #RIPshortcourses
