an excerpt from Dale Pollock's Skywalking that details the influence Marcia Lucas had on Raiders of the Lost Ark
“George had a secret weapon in Marcia. Like every director who has worked with her, Spielberg thinks she has an excellent eye. Marcia is indispensable to Lucas because she compensates for his deficiencies. Where George is not unduly concerned with character and lacks faith in the audience's patience, Marcia figures out how a movie can be made warmer, how the characters can be given depth and resonance. She was instrumental in changing the ending of Raiders, in which Indiana delivers the Ark to Washington. Marion is nowhere to be seen, presumably stranded on an island with a submarine and a lot of melted Nazis. Marcia watched the rough cut in silence and then leveled the boom. She said there was no emotional resolution to the ending, because the girl disappears. "Everyone was feeling real good until she said that," Dunham recalls. "It was one of those, `Oh, no, we lost sight of that."' Spielberg reshot the scene in downtown San Francisco, having Marion wait for Indiana on the steps of the government building. Marcia, once again, had come to the rescue.”

80's nostalgiafest. Got to see ROTLA and TLBT in theaters. They still hold up. Raiders may be my favorite 80s movie. TBL gets better with every watch. First watch for MOTH. Highly recommend. A love letter to immigrants. Will definitely watch again (and again). #letterboxdfriday #lastfourwatched

That is a characteristic of the entire 18xx series, not a fault with RotLA. But RotLA does not address this (like I was expecting it to). Trains are expensive, rust comes quickly, and there are no guardrails against bankrupting yourself.
