Tip for inexperienced #ttrpg writers: Your book is going to be used many ways—for learning the system, as a reference at the table, just as a fun read, etc. It’s best when to cater to all of those uses.

There is no correct progression curve. Pick the shape that produces the time you want at each stage, then check it against what players actually earn.

Splitting my massive RPG project into a smaller series of 'zines so I can actually release something!

The first 'zine will be a homage to the 'blue book' World of Darkness in 2004. Now to get it done...

A worker could be respected by everyone around them and still have very little control over their own life. Someone higher up could decide where they worked, what opportunities were available to them...

Borrow a story, strip it to beats, move it somewhere it's never been. Do it weekly and your game gets better. New Nightmare is the demonstration—the last fifteen percent is the warning.

Tinkering with a town generator. Various roll charts to set up the town, factions and temples, and a system for plotting out the town's layout. The basics. Here is a town I made. 🏘️
Onto making NPCs for each building. #rpgdesign #osr

I've been designing an RPG for roughly ... 5 years. Maybe 6.

It would be absolutely insane of me to completely redo the entire dice mechanic, right?

RIGHT?!

Meet RuleBindery: authoring and publishing for tabletop game books.

Rules live as structured data, so a change after layout never means redoing the layout by hand. Table of contents, index and cross-references update with it.

Why use Variable Dice instead of static bonuses?

Because we improvement to feel physical.

Going from +d4 to +d6 changes what you pick up and roll at the table, while still leaving uncertainty in the result.

Retrospect is designed around capability, not automatic success.

Retrospect sits at ~600 pages across its two core books.

The Player’s Handbook is written.
The Spectator’s Guide is written.
The QuickStart Guide is being edited.

Now, all that's left is to finish the game properly: editing, artwork and production.

Feral Lands v0.5.14 playtesting continues! I think I'm on maybe the 7th or 8th entire overhaul of the combat, but the last 2 have actually been pretty engaging! The player were doing too well, so I think I'm nudging towards balancing territory. Onwards! #rpg #ttrpg #rpgdesign

love seeing this sort of thing...dude a bit older than me still learning new things and cranking out cool lil helpful apps. :)
I mean, he didn't build THE NEXT BIG THING killer app, but still...to ME, it's pretty darn cool! :)

For my new game I created a trap for myself.
It's a tri-stat system, two of them are Action and Heart. But I need a third stat that covers both trap disarming and stealth WITHOUT covering general intelligence.
Currently it's Perception, but at this point I am almost okay with Subterfuge
