This thread reminds me how unusual my experience was. Not denying it happened i heard the horror stories too. I was always welcomed in geek circles. I rpged in college for awhile. This was early 90s.

They went to the mall together, went to the Imaginaire store in the Rideau Centre (we live in Ottawa), and perused the D&D stuff there.
At dinner, they suggested starting a D&D campaign.
We do family board games but haven't RPGed since early 2020.

one time for a job I had a million years ago, I played junior land surveyor, drew out a property map on grid paper, sorted and solved the parking situation and all sorts on a huge piece of graph paper. Most of my OCs were created back then when a friend and I kinda rpged/wrote stories as teens. That's why I have a lot of very old OCs who've been with me for quite some time and I still enjoy making them do what I want 😁 like creating the stories I wished I could have read back then

Same, I just finished it too. I’m on hold for the second. It can go either way for me. I haven’t RPGed very much so some of that is wasted on me even though I know enough about it to get it. Hoping more of the quirky humor shows up in book 2.

i replied to this in another thread but this book was somehow the most boring book that ever booked AND the most boring rpg that ever rpged. finishing it should entitle you to torture matt dinnaman for exactly as long as it took you to read.
