I actually am curious to know what people think are the earliest video games that have a serious claim to being the best in their genre. Not like “good for the time,” but like genuinely better than anything else out there.

Here's my list of most influential games, a list I'm limiting to games which I played before I turned 18.
Despite two RTSs on the list, I basically don't play the genre anymore, sadly. And for whatever reason, the website didn't have Master of Orion II, so I had to chose the first one.

Or even just PLAYING. So like I've been watching a lot of Starcraft lately. I have like NO interest in playing. I gotta be honest with myself, *I ain't got that dog in me*. I'm not going to beg for new, watered down RTSs, or complain the games don't conform to me. It's a ME "problem".
It feels like a refusal by non-fg players to admit that the structure of a fg really only works for a handful of single player setups and basically nothing else

Was - I had a pretty big phase in the late teen/early college era. I still like them (and I generally enjoy strategy on a whole), but I haven't done many RTSs in a bit. 😅
