Just a few escaped radionuclides, no biggie.

I live in what used to be primarily an agricultural hub (now known primarily for its quantities of loosely-managed radionuclides) and grain elevators are terrifying. They're built with walls that thick because they have to be explosion-proof.

Looks like the Russians set up for another Burevestnik test. And once again, there is no evidence that anything flew.

The real tell would be if others detected radionuclides. And they haven't recently.
The monitoring vessels appear to have shuffled to a test-like configuration overnight/this morning, leaving Matochkin Shar and journeying north, up along the west coast.

But as ever; impossible to say a test is underway from vessel positions alone.
Quick update on any possible test of Burevestnik from the Pankovo site in Novaya Zemlya:

1) The monitoring vessels are still up there
2) The NOTAMs are still active
3) The weather hasn't been great
4) TERIBERKA is on the way again from Arkhangelsk - this might explain why tug MARS is still up there

The last time they set up like this, Putin afterwards claimed some long flight. But

• No Russian photos
• No satellite photos
• No radionuclides

Nevertheless, I saw little questioning of Putin's claims.

Let's see what Putin claims this time.

Coal combustion enriches radionuclides in ash-but what does this mean for exposure? Scenario-based modelling indicates that resulting doses remain within acceptable safety limits.

i do not trust startups to work with radionuclides :/

No problem. Obviously I can't ever be super confident that a test is taking place, but can at least match it with previous observations.

But yeah, it'd be nicer if someone could catch some radionuclides from a test and publish their findings.

Surprised Russia didn't release images from last year.

We also looked at regulatory flexibilities for groundwater cleanup—which DOE has rarely used. We recommend that DOE and EPA develop options for cleaning up radionuclides for which the standards are outdated (and stricter than needed to be protective based on modern science).

Yes, dad’s friend checked our apartment :) I think with produce it was more nitrites / nitrates concerns and minor radionuclides. But we stopped collecting mushrooms near Kyiv.

Better ventilation and filtration of indoor air would have given us much better protection from: asbestos, lead, mold, flu, toxic metals dust, cold, covid, measles, other airborne viruses, radionuclides, diesel exhaust, wildfire smoke, and every other airborne particulate.

🌍 Could climate change re-mobilise radioactive contamination from Chernobyl? A new report of the NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence explores how wildfires and flooding could re-mobilise radionuclides.

Japan and IAEA Continue Transparency on Safety of Fukushima Treated Water
Publication of the Results for the IAEA’s Interlaboratory Comparison on the Determination of Radionuclides in ALPS Treated Water On October 5, 2026, the IAEA published a report of the results of the interlaboratory comparison (ILC) on the determination of radionuclides in ALPS treated water. The IAEA compared analysis results among TEPCO, laboratories of the IAEA and those from China, France, the Republic of Korea, and Switzerland selected by the IAEA on ALPS treated water taken from measurement/confirmation tanks in July 2025 and released its results.

A nuclear submarine needs thousands of liters of coolant per minute.

That water returns 10°C warmer, carrying zinc, nickel, hydrogen, and trace radionuclides.

The Soviet SOKS system detected this in 1969. The CIA declassified it in 2017.

'The contemporaneous guidelines recommended that containers needed to reach the seafloor intact and remain sealed only long enough for the short-lived radionuclides to decay.

After that, the remaining waste was expected to slowly escape and disperse through the surrounding ocean.'

In 2018, two researchers published a forensic analysis detailing “strong” and convincing radionuclide and hydroacoustic evidence of a low-yield nuclear test that, when combined with the original Vela optical data, pointed conclusively toward a test. scienceandglobalsecurity.org/archive/sgs2...

Staff: Sacramento meets state and federal drinking water standards despite five contaminants above public health goals
The city's 2025 public health goals report identified five contaminants detected above the state's public health goals in groundwater sources (arsenic, hexavalent chromium, radionuclides, PFOA and PFOS) but concluded Sacramento meets regulatory standards and recommended no immediate treatment changes due to cost and limited public-health benefit.

This is only a political (and sociological) problem. The technical problems have been solved for decades.

The alternative is spreading radioactive waste across the countryside, because coal contains radionuclides.

Time for work. But Gary measured high radionuclides and was bitten by a dog. Now he was just running around erratically chasing squirrels.
