a while back i used a bracketed substitution system fairly close to yours to make a universe generator! later on i refined the syntax to make a random generator maker:

a while back i used a bracketed substitution system fairly close to yours to make a universe generator! later on i refined the syntax to make a random generator maker:

ok this is even better, will now get to do the fun of randomgen names and crafting unique death lines for each unit (type of death for dyer, method of killing for killer) ("soul was rended by the curved sword of a Lowly Lizard etc)

To make it a bit easier and a lot more fun to avoid problematic insults, 10 years ago(!) I created "Rosie’s Phenomenal Precision Insult Machine!” Give it a go.

very recently noticed among my players that those who dislike the roleplay part & tend to play 3rd person style also tend to enjoy fully randomgen or silly pre-drawn PC the most
wouldnt say i fall in that box entirely, but maybe there's a pattern

What's really wild to me is that right after starfield shit the bed with a billion randomgen planets full of fuck all, 76 got a huge update with a whole new chunk of map and good story and shit proving they can still make good hand crafted content and just don't.

disabled NPC randomgen traits are quite literally segregated away into an Undesirables(tm) section of the book, which is headed by an illustration of a giant looming drooling monster in the night and titled 'Traumatized Traits.' god i hate this game

I put together a random generator with the help of orteil.dashnet.org/randomgen/ that gives me random "quests" that are things like, "Write [100 to 250] words of [random project]." And then I come up with small rewards for completing each quest.

@orteil42.bsky.social The RandomGen stuff at dashnet appears to be broken, just returning "Error! Couldn't fetch some includes in the specified data. Paths may be invalid!" on both Firefox and Chrome. Any hope of a fix? I've been using it to randomly pick out which FF14 job to do dailies on.
