#Ranked
And explaining that *ranked choice makes this stunt completely pointless.* Instead, they have a new article today suggesting this is a reason ranked choice is bad. Ranked choice solves this “problem,” it doesn’t exacerbate it!

Also interesting that the Times never addresses the fact that Alaska's ranked-choice voting makes this kind of ballot-stacking basically pointless.
i finally got to read this and wow is it a steaming pile of crap.

there is one constant in everything the NYT does and it’s this attitude of “we are smarter than you and you are simply too stupid to understand our choices.”
Inside the Times’s Decisions on the Alaska Senate Race Story
Our investigation found that Democratic operatives were behind a plan to bring a potential spoiler into the Senate race.

Ranked-choice voting is the system that now spares Alaska voters from the risk of throwing their votes away despite the state’s tradition of ballot-stacking chicanery

Talk to your kids about ranked New Mexico!

this is particularly remarkable for its nonsense and shows how much the coverage is driven by whatever two things Trump’s dying brain associates. Why would this “bolster critics“ of ranked choice? Ranked choice is the solution! If this story means anything it shows the need for ranked choice.

Yeah it’s bizarre. You’d have to not know how ranked choice works to write this article

ranked choice voting would be nice

I FIGURED IT OUT. The NYT hates ranked choice voting because it got Mamdani elected mayor and they are building a case to destroy it in NYC using Alaska as a proxy
The Times is straight-up boasting about how it has pushed a false premise so aggressively that people are helpless to debunk it with the facts

While the NYT writes dozen stories on ranked choice election in Alaska …

Indiana's 5th congressional district:

*Trump won it by 17 points
*Ranked "Lean Republican" by Cook Political Report

Early signs are there's a pretty big swing there. Encouraging.

55% of voters ranked “improved sniper/shooter capability on the National Mall” as their top issue.
Trump: "We're going for final approval of the triumphal arch/military complex ... it's going to have tremendous drone capability. I would say sniper or shooter capability"

Also a major but rarely-addressed barrier to ranked voting.
it's really not helpful to have elected judges. no one knows who they are.

americans vote for too many offices in general. it's not actually accountability if you have no info.

Could voter confusion over the Dans Sullivan in Alaska make a difference? Test it and see.

@votebeat.org built an interactive tool that lets you test different vote margins and ranked-choice scenarios to see when the second Sullivan could make a difference.

Alaska’s U.S. Senate race has a two-Dan problem. Despite much ado, experts say that’s unlikely to matter.
Alaska’s unusual ranked choice voting system could help ensure that voter confusion over two Dan Sullivans running for U.S. Senate doesn’t impact final results.

Further proof we just live in the nonsense world. Ranked choice voting solves the problem the NYT and Republicans are professing to care SO MUCH about, but because they also have prior opposition to ranked choice voting they're pretending the opposite, incoherently and clownishly

The Vice President doesn't understand how ranked choice voting works. He also appears to hate the electoral college.
JD Vance on ranked choice voting: "I don't understand it. It seems to me that you have an election, the person who wins the most votes should win...The fact it's so confusing to a person who pays pretty close attention to politics I think suggests we should do our elections in, like, the normal way"

Ranked-choice voting actually makes the double-Sullivan ploy ineffective. If anyone is confused, they vote for both. And unless Peltola gets over 50%, they get combined. So why run this deceptive article? Guess.
