This is absolutely, 100% just post-hoc rationalization by the conservatives on the court who know that allowing Trump to fire Powell would cause an economic disaster. To be honest, calling it "post hoc rationalization" gives it too much credit; there is no rationalization provided.

The thing that will drive me insane is watching the right explicitly calling for violence against their enemies (see also the Daily Caller article) and then in the same breath declaring anyone who even points it out as being a violent extremist, and then the media going “Sure, makes sense to me”

It truly is incredible how much the MAGA world insists that the Biden DOJ was "weaponized" against them when the level of pure weaponization against perceived enemies in this DOJ is truly unprecedented.
