For my #readaroundtheworld #bookchallenge I read "The Secret Lives of Baba Segi's Wives" by Lola Shoneyin set in Ibadan, Nigeria.

I enjoyed the story, the writing, and the pacing. 👍

This was a totally new author for me. The multiple POV and story worked well and I enjoyed it. Be warned, though, it has a "lady or the tiger" style ending! 📚💙 #BookSky #ReadAroundTheWorld

For my #readaroundtheworld #bookchallenge (57) - "Ayiti" by Roxanne Gay, a collection of short stories about #Haiti and Hatian people there and elsewhere.

Deep characters and biting commentary, resilient people and nuanced observations, short stories and big implications.

A slow, contemplative book. There’s no plot, but there is beautiful writing and interesting things to think about.

For my #readaroundtheworld #bookchallenge I read "Revolution Sunday" by Wendy Guerra set in Havana #Cuba

Challenging read; mixes poetry w/story of a Cuban poet/author living under the authoritarian regime and learning her own history. Interesting but felt like I was missing something.

For my #readaroundtheworld #bookchallenge I read "The Island of Forgetting" by Jasmine Sealy set mainly in #Barbados

Generational saga with family ties, mental illness, trauma, all without being too saga-y. My reaction was fairly mid. Worthwhile but not wow.

For my #readaroundtheworld #bookchallenge (61) - "The True True Story of Raja the Gullible (and His Mother)" by Rabih Alameddine, set in #Lebanon

The story of Raja, his mom, and their relationship set against the backdrop of Beirut's tumult thru the decades. Felt genuine, good read.

For my #readaroundtheworld #bookchallenge (67) - "Definitely Maybe" by #Russia brothers Boris & Arkady Strugatsky and translated by Antonia W Bouis.

Sci-Fi tale of academics versus aliens? The universe? The Iron Curtain? (Not sure I was smart enough for this story!)
