“Un agujero en la alambrada” (a whole in the fence) a book by François Sautereau was one of my childhood favourites. Grisón lives in Epnoi and himself and his friends always try to cross over the fence into the forbidden forest. What awaits over the fence? 😁

This was probably the number one book I made my parents read to me when I was very young. It holds such fond memories for me and no doubt contributed to my lifelong love of reading 💜

🌼 loves this one: Hairy Maclary Scattercat. It's about a boisterous dog who just wants to chase the neighbourhood cats. There are some great rhymes, and the twist at the end always makes me laugh. I've read Hairy Maclary that many times that I basically know it by heart 🤣

"The Magic Faraway Tree" by Enid Blyton

One reviewer describes "The Magic Faraway Tree" perfectly: "There is a child in so many of us. In the case of those who have read the Faraway Tree series, that child may never want to grow up."

It's impossible for me to pick a favorite (I'm an elementary school librarian) but I think non-fiction is under represented and I adore this:

Les malheurs de Sophie (1858), written by La Comtesse de Ségur.
Reading, offering and transmitting the books of the Countess of Ségur and, in particular, Sophie’s misadventures, is an old tradition in the family. From mother and grandmother to daughter and granddaughter. A classic.

Since the 50s, every child in the Netherlands has grown up with the stories about Jip & Janneke, two kindergartners going on small daily life adventures.
The book I’m holding here was given to me when I was born in 1980, and I read to my kids from it as well. The current edition has the same cover.

Let’s celebrate RM’s birthday! 🎂

#ReadWithRM is a 7-day fundraiser supporting Start a Library Trust (SAL), a Kenya-based org who aims to improve literacy rates and educational outcomes by fostering a lifelong love for reading and learning 💜

Donate ➡️ bit.ly/ReadWithRM
On the left third of the poster is a photo of RM outside on the street wearing a track suit jacket and black pants. He is jumping with his right arm pointed straight up in the air. The rest of the poster has a beige background with animated flowers along the bottom. Text elements include: the campaign hashtag Read with RM, OIAA birthday campaign 2025, Start a Library Trust logo with their motto “A library in every school”, a description of the campaign and websites for the charity and OIAA. The campaign text reads: Start a Library Trust (SAL) is a Kenya-based non-profit founded in 2012 with a mission to champion literacy in Africa by creating thriving communities of learners and teachers. They collaborate with schools to set up sustainable libraries, providing access to books, educational resources, and literacy programs. SAL aims to improve literacy rates and educational outcomes in underserved communities by fostering a lifelong love for reading and learning. SAL’s new campaign Refresh the Shelves is just in time for International Literacy Week celebrations (Sept 8th-12th). Some of SAL’s earliest libraries, the very ones that started their program, are running out of stories. The shelves are still standing, but the books have been well loved and are now old, torn, and too few to keep the magic alive. The campaign looks to revive 20 of their oldest libraries.

On the background of the poster is a photo of RM from his Right Place Wrong Person album. It has an old school feel to it and looks like it might have been taken with a film camera. He is looking away from the camera as he walks across a grassy field with dense green trees in the background. He has very short dark hair and is wearing an untucked buttoned up shirt, khaki pants, with a plaid scarf wrapped around his neck. In the middle of the poster is a beige box with cartoon flowers peaking out from behind the box. The text in the box reads “How to Donate to OIAA Charity Campaigns Visit the donation page created for this fundraiser: bit.ly/ReadWithRM Donate any amount (minimum of $1) Take a screenshot of your donation to submit it to our tracking form (cover up your personal information) Share this campaign on social media to help promote it. #ReadWithRM One in an ARMY Birthday Campaign 2025”
