We live in such a stupid era. The Readdle Documents app on my iPad Pro is offering to use "AI" to read & summarize comic books for me so I don't have to.

Some of the good free apps (iPad version, sorry I don't do android/windows) are Collanote, FreeForm, Apple Notes - see Forever notes YouTube, or my personal favorite Obsidian. Documents by Readdle, the free version is really good for pdf mgmt/annotation & more.

Huh. I didn't even know that was a thing. I've been using Scanner Pro by Readdle for years, which I think does a pretty good job, but I also bought an earlier version whereas the current one is SAS only?

I've been using Scanner Pro from Readdle since forever. Works really well on books where pages can't lie flat--which I can tell from your pic will definitely be a concern.

Along with my Mac, I use my iPad to read and annotate journal articles and student papers. I use PDF Expert (by Readdle)on both devices.
In terms of note-taking apps, I alternate between @obsidian.md and Apple Notes.
On my Mac, I organize archival material (photos, PDFs, etc.) with Devonthink.
