The book they are now requiring police presence during debate about?

Perks of Being a Wallflower.

A book that is nearly 30 years old.

Book banners are deeply unserious people.

Stop listening to them.

Laws work only when those in power respect the rule of law. MAGA extremists in Readington and Bridgewater are using their BOE seats to subvert the Freedom to Read law, undermine the integrity of librarians, and ban books in school libraries.

Book banners live in blue states, too. Hunterdon County in NJ — one of the most affluent places in the nation — is also home to the state’s most persistent and virulent book banners. Ask me how I know (or just watch the Emmy-winning documentary THE LIBRARIANS). @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social

Right wing book burners have made a NJ school board so afraid that police are being staged at all meetings.

ha remember how, sometime in the past few weeks, I mentioned a neighboring town & a nude bicyclist? Here we go again with Readington. And a town over in the other direction, we have a BoE member doing some really odd and parallel stuff... what a mess.

There’s other reporting on this meeting, issue has been going on for a while. Other articles quote concern for both community and board member safety. Ngl it’s crazy a board member left to participate during public comment.

It gets worse: Readington sent its cops on a “knock and talk” at the home of the woman leading the call for the freedom to read in that community. It’s an intimidation move. But she will not be intimidated. Support her by following her page www.facebook.com/share/1JX2dP...

The fight over removing or keeping THE PERKS OF BEING A WALLFLOWER in Readington School District (NJ–where there's an anti-book ban law, recall) is so intense that a cop will be at every school board meeting the rest of the year.

These people remain unhinged.

The right to read & speak is under attack in NJ. This week a community member who has opposed the extremist Readington BOE’s attempts to ban books received a surprise “knock & talk” at her home by the Readington PD in an attempt to intimidate her into silence. Do not bend to fascists.
