Photo of a library staff member, Fee, holding up a copy of "A far better thing" by H. G. Parry. Text below the image reads: In this retelling of Dickens' A Tale of Two Cities, H. G. Parry imagines the shadow versions of London and Paris, where unrest in the dark realm of Faerie holds a mirror to the chaos of the French Revolution. Characters from the 1859 classic are given more deptin as children of the Realm, or changelings. Photo of a library staff member, Hayley S, holding up a copy of "Discipline" by Larissa Pham. Text below the image reads" A slow and introspective take on art, trauma and healing. While on a book tour for a novel base on her experience of an art school mentor taking advantage of er, a writer is contacted by the professor and forced to confront her trauma head-on. Photo of a library staff member, Eamonn, holding up a copy of "Father of the rain" by Lily King. Text below the image reads: I am a big fan of Lily King's acclaimed novels, Writers & Lovers, and Heart the lover, so I was intrigued to go back and read one of her earlier works, a novel tat was largely overlooked when it was first published. It turns out Lily King has been an amazing writer all along, it just took us readers and critics a decade to realise it.

📖 Hayley S - So old, so young by Grant Ginder
📖 Mike - Scratch moss by David Barnett
📖 Eamonn - The Palm House by Gwendoline Riley
📖 Sarah - Unreliable narrator by Araminta Hall
Search: christchurch.bibliocommons.com
A librarian, Hayley S, holding a copy of So old, so young by Grant Ginder in front of their face. Text beneath reads: A poignant look at a group of college friends as their lives converge during five different get-togethers across two decades, and how they struggle with the knowledge that they don't fit together the way they once did. A librarian, Mike, holds a copy of Scratch moss by David Barnett held up in front of their face. Text beneath reads: I'm loving David Barnett's Gemini series, this sinister tale of a cursed mining town and the deal they have with an old god is unputdownable! Scratch Moss add another unnerving layer to the expanding mythos that ramps up the dread that had me reading it on the bus and now hanging out for the next fix! A librarian, Sarah, holds a copy of Unreliable Narrator by Araminta Hall in front of their face. Text beneath reads: A gripping, twisty thriller that follows the diary entries of a young woman as she's hired as a live-in assistant to a flamboyant yet reclusive writer, and her desperate search for the truth when the writer uses her experience as fodder for his novel. A librarian, Eamonn, holds a copy of The Palm House by Gwendoline Riley in front of their face. Text beneath reads: Every new Gwendoline Riley novel is a treat and The Palm House is no exception. These is a loose plot of two friends navigating their way through jobs and relationships in contemporary London, but where Riley always shines is the introspection of her characters. This will be the best prose you read all year.

📖 Hayley S - Loved one by Aisha Muharrar
📖 Eamonn - The Stalker by Paula Bomer
📖 Hayley C - Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid
📖 Mike - Cruelty free by Caroline Glenn
Photo of a librarian holding Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid in front of their face. Text on image reads: Hayley C / It's been a long time since a book made me cry, and Atmosphere definitely did. the story follows a group consisting of a pilot, and aeronautical engineer, and astrophysics professor and mission specialists who join NASA, each carrying their own dream of becoming astronauts. Photo of a librarian holding a copy of Cruelty free by Caroline Glenn in front of their face. Text on the graphic reads: Mike / I parked up on the couch and lost myself into this page-turning thriller about a former movie star rebuilding her life after a massive tragedy, in ever-increasingly unhinged ways. Photo of a librarian holding a copy of The Stalker by Paula Bomer in front of their face. Text on the graphic reads: Eamonn / Okay, I totally don't endorse this book, but if you want to feel nauseous and experience all the worst emotions while reading, this is the one. The main character is vile, truly beyond redemption. That said, if you're drawn to darker, more disturbing stories, you might actually love it. Photo of a librarian holding a copy of Loved one by Aisa Muharrar in front of their face. Text on the graphic reads: Hayley S / After Julia's first-love-turned-best-friend unexpectedly dies at 29, she takes herself on a quest to find his missing possessions, connecting with his most recent girlfriend in the process. A light and warm and comforting book about the kind of grief that doesn't fit neatly into a box.
