#RearGuard
For the last 21 months, the lower federal courts have been fighting a rearguard action against the lawlessness of the Trump administration—with no support from Congress and very little from #SCOTUS.

One of tonight’s less visible consequences will be that we’ll have a Congress that has their backs.

Yeah, my hunch is these guys are going to be fairly uninterested in Germany now they are fighting a rearguard in Georgia.

Arsenal did very well to frustrate Liverpool in the second half.

Our ability to mount a dominant rearguard action is so good at deflating opponents. It's a big win.

Hopefully that Anfield hex is off our backs for a while now. 💪

No one, absolutely no one, would have blamed gina hinojosa if she had fought a rearguard action that succeeded only in keeping abbott’s margin from carrying Paxton over the line. That would have been seen as a massive success. But she was not content to do that. she found abbott’s weakness, she

I mean this has been the most wantonly, brazenly corrupt administration in U.S. history, and with the exception of The Federalist occasionally publishing rearguard *lawfare* pieces, everyone on the right is too terrified to talk about it. It's dysfunctional.

We keep seeing this rearguard action from the longtime Iran hawks where a hypothetical Iran conflict in which everything has gone smoothly is substituted for the actually existing Iran War where no war aims have been achieved or are likely to be achieved

And hanging onto (thus far) EVERY single seat they'd gerrymandered while also getting within a few *hundred* votes of flipping some of the most supposed-to-be-safe candidates is an insanely good rearguard action for Dems even if we lost statewide and don't end up flipping any seats

This is the one, very real dark cloud on an otherwise amazing week.

But I also remember how awful I and most I knew felt when Bush and Turd Blossom engineered a sweeping set of state amendments against same sex marriage.

These rearguard culture moves won't last (but the current harms will).

Round my way, "The Halloween celebrants" are fighting a brave but futile rearguard action.

All of them, big fans of 'The nightmare before Christmas'

It's not novel to observe but it is funny that most authoritarians are actually really pathetic and afraid of basic accountability. They talk of being lions or the rearguard for their revolutionary project and do not even allow themselves to go to jail.

not the sort of rearguard action they'd hoped for

Some of the last ditch Dixiecrats’ rearguard actions in the early 2000’s

Brilliant rearguard action from an Arsenal team who find comfort settling into their defensive shape and holding on. Maybe 14 years without a win at Anfield was the wrong time to expect sparkle, but when we retreat we must improve our transition threat in future

Still, great win & weekend #COYG 🔴⚪️🏆

TERFs can't accept that they're transmisic ideology is part of a rearguard action for the patriarchy, it would psychology destroy them.

Progressives are about to deliver a senate majority over the furious rearguard action by conservatives to destroy that...

And the net effect is going to be that those same incompetent conservatives get be the majority leaders...

None of this makes sense.

Nor, should I stress, is there such a thing as "pure" Christianity, "pure" Judaism, or "pure" Islam. The quest for an "untainted" religion is almost by definition a futile one. People talk to each other, beliefs and practices change. Fundamentalism is at best fighting a rearguard action.

The Battle of Vyazma was a major rearguard action fought on 3 November 1812 during Napoleon Bonaparte’s retreat from Moscow. The Russian victory severely disrupted the cohesion of the French Grande Armée, turning their orderly withdrawal into a chaotic rout.

you should be ok
probably also some rearguard action as they lost and didn't include those key men

Wouldn't want to take anything away from Fleetwood, so excellent in their second half rearguard. However I can't think of many Arsenal players who could complain if they were dropped for the next dozen games after their performance tonight.

Real Madrid CF 0-1 Liverpool FCMadrid could find no way past a stubborn Liverpool rearguard before Yossi Benayoun's 82nd-minute header put the English outfit in control of the tie.
