I didn't get to Shibuya until 1999, so this map wasn't my territory. Interesting to note how many places moved, but are still there today, like Tower, RecoFan, and Disk Union. Also, gotta give it up for Shibuya Eggman (still open)!

There are Recofan stores in Akihabara and Shibuya but they're shells of the former glory that their original Shibuya location had.

Straight off a red eye flight called in at RECOfan in Shibuya and picked up a few 12s and a nice Japanese press of a later Temptations LP

Today at RecoFan in Akihabara, I snagged the Burning Car 12” EP (a Japanese exclusive in its day) and it only reinforced my enthusiasm about the music of John Foxx and how in a different universe, I could claim him as a musical influence. But hey, there’s no time like the present!

I can spend hours in Book Off and Recofan searching the 100 yen CD rack. It's so much fun and you can come away with some real gems. Lots of times I see an album I really love in there and kind of want to buy it again, just to give to someone. My apartment is small but I've got lots of CDs in here!

Getting harder and harder to do the 100 yen CD dive. Recofan in Shibuya was still good for it, and the Bookoff in Ikebukuro last I went!

If you're going record hunting, skip Tower Records and hit RECOfan, Ginza Records & Audio, or a Discunion of whatever genre you like (the metal and punk ones are great)

i'm on a mission to buy songs from a mp3 CD of JPop that a friend of mine made for me back in 2002. i've bought a lot of CDs that way! but now i also look for vinyl, so that is my priority. I like RecoFan in Akihabara and near Musashi-Koganei-eki (I haven't been to the one in Shibuya yet).

Before streaming, the discount bins at the Takadanobaba RECOFan were among the best places to find new music. That's where I picked up what turned out to be one of my favorite no-skip electronica albums of all time, Terre Thaemlitz's Couture Cosmetique. comatonse.bandcamp.com/album/coutur...
