A reminder from Japan Airlines that their CEO, Tottori Mitsuko, is a former flight attendant and one of Asia’s leading businesspeople.

We have yet to hear from a single woman this morning at #RedCabin. Only one spoke during the plenary sessions yesterday, with one of four workshops women-led.

After a week discussing lofty, idealistic and thought-provoking goals for the future of aviation at RedCabin in Tokyo, boy howdy do I have some thoughts on the less lofty, etc, reality of flying at the moment…

Flying Ryanair in a couple of weeks (to the RedCabin Aircraft Cabin Innovation Summit, no less).

Happened across their incredibly creepy talking AI head video explaining their new demand for digital boarding passes.

Cannot wait for this bubble to burst, get thee behind me Becky Six-Fingers…

I had planned to be in Japan this week with John and the #PaxEx fun at RedCabin. My new part-time gig got in the way, but I'll be following along. And if the future of aircraft cabins is of interest you should, too. 🤓

I ran a workshop at the RedCabin conference — which has the people who design airplane cabins and experience — last week that included this exact example.

There were FAR too many people who seemed surprised by it.

Also, find out what our award-winning workshop from last week's RedCabin summit — we are genuinely chuffed at the recognition! — was all about.

(Hint: @thatjohn.bsky.social's mother's holiday photos from her trip to Japan last year at 84 are very much related.)

Morning 2 at #RedCabin Tokyo begins with Qatar Airways, which I guess is useful if you are working with unlimited money as a public diplomacy effort rather than an commercial airline

Always happy to ask the questions everyone else wants to at a RedCabin or other industry event.

Can you tell which of these two belts — sorry, seats — is from which airline, and why?

Can a passenger?

Does a passenger need to, especially if those airlines are low-cost offshoot subsidiaries?

Really striking in this shot and ANA’s earlier historical business photo just how close today’s premium economy seat is to business class 25 years ago.

Seems like the next step is the premium economy angled lie-flat, right? #RedCabin

Great to see this innovation highlighted @ #RedCabin!

Jamco — the sole supplier of 787 lavs — and partner JAXA's new accessible lav temporarily combines two adjacent lav units and a connecting cross aisle to create "unprecedented" space.

First up this #RedCabin, ANA is introducing themselves and their latest product, including The Room, its world-leading business class.

Want to know more about that? Well, my mother — @thatmum.bsky.social — flew them this month, at 83! Here’s what she thought:

Flying ANA at 83: London-Tokyo flight couldn’t have been better - Runway Girl
At 83 years of age, I was a little apprehensive about flying the fourteen hours that London to Tokyo now takes. But then I flew ANA business.

at the RedCabin summit a couple of weeks back, I was in a session with a couple of parents of autistic kids and we were talking about it, and they pulled out their phones, had a look, and ordered the book on the spot

it made me SO HAPPY

JAXA, the Japanese space agency, has been working on a metamorphic lavatory, which allows the crew to combine the multi-purpose room (as found on Shinkansen) with a small lav to create a larger, accessible lav. #RedCabin

It’s not often that APEX’s @joeleader.bsky.social and I are on the same side of a set of objections, but that’s the great thing about RedCabin!

Seatback screens have been declared dead more times than Hemingway, and they’re still being installed on almost every widebody airplane.
