I was out photographing and filming Red squirrel again today. It was nice watching them forage for chestnuts and pine cones. There is only a small population left here (6 or 7) and sadly I saw a Grey squirrel within a mile of this little group of reds. #redsquirrel #CountyDurham #wildlifephotography

A Red Squirrel lying across the trunk of an Ash tree in the sunshine. The trunk runs along the bottom of the shot from the right hand corner; curving up along the left hand side. The Squirrel is centre of the shot and towards the bottom: lying with its head to the left so that its left side can be seen over the trunk, its tail falls down behind the trunk in the right hand corner. It has a beige muzzle and eye ring with red fur around it and it doesn’t have have prominent ear tufts. The fur is almost rusty around the shoulder and arm, its left hand is drooping down over the tree trunk. Its legs are tucked in under its body and its tail gets darker as its ,over away from the body. The trunk has patches of green-brown moss and small branches growing out of it. The background is a clear blue sky with an out of focus mossy branch visible behind the squirrel

Another photo from Saturday’s trip out to photograph red squirrels. This one decided to peek around the tree trunk and check me out. A quick look straight into the lens before it carried on with its business.

Our excursions run up to Snaizeholme, the red squirrel santuary near Hawes, from the Dales Countryside Museum.

Its head, chest, arms, underbelly and tail can be seen. Its head is lifted slightly so its move is slightly elevated. It has red fur, a little darker at the top of its head.
