Redgrave and Lopham Fen on a sunny May day. It straddles the River Waveney, forming part of the Norfolk-Suffolk boundary, represented here by their county flags. One of the UK’s largest and rarest spiders, the fen raft spider is found here. #redgraveandlophamfen #Suffolkflag #flagofSuffolk

Meadow Thistle (Cirsium dissectum) & Southern Marsh Orchid (D. praetermissa) provide rare stabs of royal purple at #RedgraveandLophamFen. The more subtle hues of Lousewort (Pedicularis sylvatica) & Milkwort (Polygala vulgaris) are nestled in the sward.

Brookweed (Samolus valerandi), Marsh Speedwell (Veronica scutellata) and Lesser Stitchwort (Stellaria graminea) among the more diminutive stars at #RedgraveandLophamFen.
Alarm calling Oystercatcher parents nearby by the sounds of it.

You know it's good & soggy when you see Lesser Spearwort, Water Dock & Ragged Robin, with the tang of Water Mint underfoot. Also the fragrance of Honeysuckle & Elderflower with jags of Cettis Warbler song on the (brisk) air.

You know you are getting into midsummer when the Weld (Reseda luteola) & Common Cudweed (Filago vulgaris) are out. Also at #RedgraveandLophamFen, cuckoo spit - and energetic Cuckoo calls (though it is actually the spit of a froghopper).
