#Redmonton
Edmonton used to be Redmonton because the city always voted in federal Liberals. Much less now but at least one of the most solid federal NDP ridings is Heather in Strathcona

Even a place like Alberta which has always voted over 50% conservative has Edmonton, nicknamed "Redmonton" because it solidly votes for the socialists and even Calgary votes majority for the socialists now.

Yeah people assume Alberta=Tory but they call it Redmonton for a reason, it's been won by progressives

Depends on the riding though, which one is up

The tragic thing about the Okanagan situation was the fantastic former jet fighter & good guy that they once elected as a Liberal MP, got replaced by loony CPC Tracy Gray

Anyways, I can relate to the Grande Prairie situation because of the Okanagan experience

Fortunately, I'm in Redmonton now.

Strategy as well as GOTV is imperative

Complacency will be the enemy of getting the really good government Canada needs right now

In AB, my every vote is strategic and researched. My vote is valuable here in Redmonton and my Liberal riding

(unlike the evangelical Okanagan where my vote was zero)

Was called Redmonton for a time when they were the only liberal MPs elected in Alberta.

I'm OK with #YegGriesbach and #YEGStrathcona going to the NDs. I have promoted strategic voting for them. Polling is very close in a number of ridings. My hope is that others will strategically vote #Liberal for all the other Edmonton ridings. This is a progressive city after all. #Redmonton 👍👍

Gotta punish Redmonton for having the temerity to vote NDP.

"Redmonton" is conservative in a total Canadian perspective, but is liberal red (and NDP orange) in an Alberta-local perspective.

We are a liberal enclave in the conservative province, and get attacked for it.

Considering I live in REDmonton, they don't sweep everything, and this was specifically a discussion about Edmonton, where we had at least 3 NDP MPs this last term.

The sprawl makes my brain hurt too. There's lots to dislike about this place.

However, yes, Edmonton has been called REDmonton since at least the 90s not only for being the One Liberal Stronghold (in the federal and provincial elections) but also classic commie red.
We have loads of cooperatives.

Jordan, I live in REDmonton.

The UCP: who needs built heritage (especially in REDmonton) when you could have cheaper-to-maintain grass next to the nice government building?

Absolutely brainless decision-making.
We aren’t the only ones hate the loss of the building:

They don't call it "Redmonton" for nothing!

But as the iconic Phil Connors said upon finally waking up to the third of February, ‘anything different is good.’”

Gerrymandering: the UCP version. Got to dilute the vote of those pesky urban centres, especially Redmonton.
December 21, 2025 at 12:35 AM
Edmonton has been progressive for decades. That's why our conservative provincial govt hates us, and lots of cons call us 'Redmonton' (our lib party is dead though, so we're really more orange than red)

This is why they call it Redmonton, comrades! ✊
Oh Dani.
You’re in twouble.
