Britain and other nations should together spend tens of billions of pounds a year investigating ways to cool the planet, such as brightening clouds and refreezing the Arctic, say @climatecrisisag.bsky.social, @profmarkmaslin.bsky.social & @rahmstorf.bsky.social 👇

After baking one of Marie Callender's pies, you can keep it the fridge for up to three days only, and the brand doesn't recommend refreezing it.

Ice and snow … driveways and sidewalks
November 2nd, 2026 Ice melt products vary in composition and can have different effects on surfaces. Rock salt (sodium chloride) is widely used and effective but can cause asphalt to dry and crack over time and damage concrete by seeping into pores and refreezing. Salt with calcium chloride works at lower temperatures but is more corrosive, leading to scaling and surface deterioration on concrete and limestone.

What was needed, they said, was the development of a further category of response — deliberate interventions in the Earth system such as reflecting sunlight and refreezing glaciers — to be developed now, so they are ready if they are ever needed to stabilise the Earth’s climate.

That's fine, as long as you're cooking it. Bringing it to room temp then refreezing it is where you'll get issues.

I taught AI the term "ice crickets/cicadas" when I was asking it how a field recording of a frozen lake refreezing has crickets. Fast moving water freezing sounds more like cicadas, from ice pieces colliding against rocks. #misophonia #sensory #asmr

She would stop the attack to block it with the ice sword... Using her magic to reinforce the ice as it continued melting...

That put both maidens in a power standstill... One melting the sword faster and faster, the other refreezing it faster and faster...

Raven's midsection!

Increasing the temperature the longer she fires the beam!

" Your own specialty!?
Please, you don't own the maiden powers, Cinder. "

..... That is one hell of an insult for the both of them.

Did you hear the hum of the fridge? A quiet, steady beat in the room's corner. Your breath cracks open like a door, letting light in. 🌙 Is your chest still warm, even when the light has found you? Even when the world has moved on, your breath still finds the shape of the room. 🌬️

For Decades, the Arctic Melt Season Kept Growing. Then It Stopped
For much of the satellite record, the Arctic sea ice melt season kept getting longer. Then, around 2010, that long-running trend unexpectedly flattened. Over several decades, Arctic sea ice generally began melting earlier in the spring and refreezing later in the fall. That extended the time each year when ice was melting and contributed to major reductions in sea ice across the Arctic. A new NASA-led study now shows that while the melt season has lengthened dramatically since satellite monitoring began, its average duration has changed relatively little since about 2010. Arctic Melt Season Is Now About 40 Days Longer The researchers found that the Arctic sea ice melt season is now approximately 40 days longer than it was in 1979. Most of that increase occurred before 2010. Since then, the average length of the melt season has remained fairly steady, even though conditions can still differ substantially from one year to the next. To track the change, researchers analyzed satellite observations spanning 1979 through 2023. They identified when sea ice began to melt each spring and when freezing resumed in the fall. Their analysis showed that the longer melt season was caused primarily by later fall freeze-up, rather than...
