I don't think the weird Switch 2 regionlocking stuff is because of the tariffs, I think it's because of the historically weak yen
same with the prices. it's just because of inflation
the impacts of the tariffs will be felt a year or two from now. it hasn't even begun to be terrible yet lol

credit where credit is due at least 99.9% of dvd players allowed you to remove the region lock within a minute because manufacturers hated putting it in to begin with. just shows that even in the 2000s regionlocking was unpopular

the regionlocking is so weird to me, why are we spending so much time hyping up the netcode as the revolutionary next big thing while limiting the game to distances no modern fighter struggles with anymore? wasnt the entire goal for rollback and the like interregional play?

Yeah, I thought about that too, but Europe is still on the pending list of tariffs so even if an US citizen imports their electronic entertainment from Europe, they would not end up with that much savings.

not even valorant but years ago ive wanted to play with US players and had to make a US account (which stopped working for US matchmaking back in 2022 already) just because riot crybaby behavior is all about regionlocking like old consoles :I

I ran into that issue too. I'm just seething at the fact that's THIS is why streaming came about in the first place. Regionlocking was never popular. I'm rapidly considering investing in a good vpn instead and going back to fucking torrenting

Regionlocking consoles in 2025 and killing actual game carts for "Game-Key Cards". These require you to download a game and be online to continuously check if the license if valid. If you dont go online for 2 weeks, it might just not validate and let you play.
