#Regionalists
And the white feminist monitoring class

And the technosolutionists

And the “funny” Northern regionalists

And the professional racial dommes

Etc etc
Yes, but that would have decentered the white male chattering class....

my very mildly hot take is that regionalists in france and spain (esp. the basques and corsica) have a much better moral claim for independence than scotland or wales, whose nationalisms are little more than release valves for sentiment that could actually drive a progressive mass movement

Yall broke regional containment long ago and the regionalists never ever believe it.
You are from Michigan. You need to retract that “y’all”

The two types of European regionalists

I mean that kind of is the entire reason why, they're basically the one region where the regionalists have won, they have an incredible amount of autonomy while still getting all the benefits of being in a country as big as Italy.

Going down a list and deciding which western European separatists/regionalists are good on a purely vibes basis

The Spanish left is completely peasant brained re: housing. They foam their mouths when you even dare suggest building more housing and they're wildly xenophobic on the tourism regard.

It's a shame Ciudadanos disappeared so Sánchez it at the mercy of the remnants of Podemos + regionalists.
This should be a warning for the Spanish left: build more housing or the right will rise and shut down immigration for you too www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Andy Burnham, like most Labour members of his generation are UK Regionalists. They won't recognise Scotland's Nationhood. Remember when Jeremy Corbin visited Scotland as Labour leader, he was astonished that Scotland had it's own legal system and questioned why that should be allowed.

This isn't to say that regionalists from elsewhere can't be absolutely crazy - most southern regionalists are basically Christian Democrats, the Venetians are just larpers, and Sardinian nationalists are always one bad day away from blowing up a city hall - but Lega was a very /particular/ problem.

Burnham adopting proportional representation would transform British elections.

With the current system & recent polls, far-right Reform could win a majority with 25% or a Reform-Tory coalition could win with fewer votes than a Labour-Green-Lib Dem bloc.

PR would prevent that & change so much more

Some anti-regionalists - notably Spain - might only do so grudgingly, but opposition to genuine fascism would, I think, turn them.

Any far-right governed - eg Hungary now - may actively oppose.

Others like Poland may try to put their relationship with London first in hope of salvaging it.

no offense but if we get these kinkade-mcnaughton soft focus bullshits instead of thomas hart benton, grant wood, john steuart curry and other talented regionalists. well i don't know what. look at that stuff instead . this painting is "fine" i guess but he is literally a focus on the family guy. 👎

Basically I didn't think the tools were up to the job. I came from SE Asian studies where regionalists offered narrative that seemed to naïvely accept identity-based stories that don't explain much. Quantitative work at the time was less monocausal, but used a lot of kitchen sink regressions.

In the mail: the latest issue on @middlewestreview.bsky.social, which includes my essay on "Dhalgren" as a Midwestern novel. Barney isn't that impressed, but regionalists and science fiction fans may differ.

The funniest thing is the most fervent defenders of teaching english in schools in India tend to be South Indian regionalists.
Pros of Lohia: Encouraging OBCs to enter politics.
Cons: Trying to ban an entire language upon which the government relies on and multinational corporations look for when trying to set up a business in the state.
Oh yeah the Lohia acolytes. Yeah that anti-English stance legit set Bihar back ages. Insane decision especially in a state that relies on government employment.

Does ethno-linguistic diversity fuel political tensions? And do regionalists benefit from conflicts at the national level?

This Friday, GASPAR member Maxime Vandenberghe will present some new data and discuss these dynamics @euracfederalism.bsky.social. All are welcome - online and offline!

Last night of cramming before I leave for Prague and #ESRA2024! Regionalists of BlueSky, any final tips for EDRA part 1?

Burnham is one of a group of Labour politicians who regard Scotland as simply another region of the UK. Corbin was another, when he visited Scotland as Labour leader, he expressed astonishment that Scotland had a separate legal system. I knew a lot of these Labour regionalists back in the 1980's.
Does that mean Scotland get to keep all their Revenue they earned then !
Without the Barnett, Scotland is contributing to the UK effectively without anything in return.
Burnham is already boosting Scottish independence and nobody's voted for him yet. This Will just push more in Scotland to vote Indy
