Public meeting scheduled for the #ReidOverpass replacement. At the last meeting in Jan, all the options proposed were horrifically overbuilt in the name of traffic flow. Let's hope they have something reasonable this time.

Dear Friend, Thank you for your continued interest in the replacement of the William T. Reid Overpass. Since our last meeting in January, the project team has obtained detailed survey of the area around the Reid Overpass, taken new multimodal traffic counts during the first week of April, answered dozens of comment emails from community members, the input from which has been used to refine MassDOT’s conceptual alternatives for replacing the overpass, and met directly with the representatives of advocacy organizations concerned with Cambridgeport, cycling, greenspace, transit, and walking – a specific request made at the January public meeting. Over the course of the spring and summer, our team has been working to refine the concepts, both fully at-grade and including a new bridge, to replace the Reid Overpass and reconfigure the intersection of the Boston University Bridge, Brookline Street, and Memorial Drive. These refinements respond directly to input provided to us by community members like you and the advocacy organizations to which many of you belong. Among them include reducing a possible replacement viaduct to a single lane in each direction, placing all crossings under signal control, tightening curve radii to slow turning vehicles, and increasing physical separation between the modes. To share these refinements with you and take additional public comment as we work towards a preferred concept to take into a formal design process, MassDOT will host a public information meeting on Thursday, August 6th at 6:30PM in the auditorium of the Morse School. The Morse School is located 40 Granite Street in Cambridge. We ask that that you share this information with your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, anyone you think would benefit from it.
