The board which has too high a proportion of political appointees.

First on the list to give it back its spine, is reminig Gibb. Any full kno can guess he's likely to have been interfering in editorial decision e.g. on Israel-Gaza, for which there are grounds for suspecting.

This isn't just Trump, it's the rich using 'lawfare' generally, but the Trump case is especially egregious given it's the BBC

#Reith must be spinning in his grave.

Note that the BBC openly admits in an email to me that the removal of this claim about Trump's world-historical corruption was done "on legal advice."

Translation: Trump's threat of a lawsuit, no matter how bogus, has now been rewarded.

Today's #ReithLecture was great. Strongly recommend.

The BBC World Service has broken its special coverage of Syria and the fall of Assad with the #ReithLecture on the notion of evil by forensic psychiatrist Gwen Adshead. An apt and prescient piece of programming. Her wisdom is staggering and always useful - especially now.

This is so fucking shameful. The BBC is censoring a Reith Lecture contributor because he made a critical comment about the Orange Asshole! #BBC #ReithLecture #ShameOnTheBBC
I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Is there such a thing as evil? Dr Gwen Adshead’s #ReithLecture is a must listen

“If you just put people in prison, and treat them badly, then nothing very much will change.”

Dr Gwen Adshead’s answer to the Q “Do you think prison is a place of rehabilitation?”

End of a thought provoking first #ReithLecture

Bregman seems to believe that his views are the concensus and what every is aspiring to. The only issue is to achieve his vision. That's blantantly not the case.

Today's #ReithLecture was lovely and fluffy but it completely ignores the fact that power and money are on the right, and they are not on board with his vision. It will use all that power and money to not only to fight this vision but also to promote opposing views.

todays #Reithlecture www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/... asking the question "aren't they all evil?" This looks at the capacity for evil that exists in all of us, the states of mind that might allow evil action. Worrying that Gwen Adshead is seeing a lot in our culture now that can allow evil to grow.

It's not wise to maintain a "close relationship" with a country that is led by "the most openly corrupt president in American history", as #Trump was described by Dutch writer #RutgerBregman in his #BBC #ReithLecture.
The BBC has ordered its presenters and journalists not to repeat the allegation.

It is sad to see how the abuse of the law, the judiciary and power can lead to self-censorship.
The #BBC was probably advised by money minded and extremely careful lawyers to refrain from anything #Trump might object to.
Censoring a #ReithLecture is a disgrace .

Trump Angrily Threatened to Sue BBC. Then Things Took a Darker Turn.
First, British Broadcasting Corporation execs resigned after Trump complained about a segment. Now the BBC edited out a line from a historian that was critical of Trump. Where does this end?

In his latest #ReithLecture, @rutgerbregman.com set out how the Fabian Society helped lay the foundations for social democracy and the welfare state.

From universal healthcare and public education to votes for women, the Fabians helped make the once unthinkable a reality.

This thought, piercing in its clarity, lingers long after the film, weaving itself into the images and voices it conjures. It resonates deeply with a lecture I heard by Gwen Adshead as part of the BBC's #ReithLecture series.
