i really like pairing gear because it's very dense even when rough and ambitious with what it wants to cover regarding the idea of relationships with humanoid constructs and even inanimate objects & how relationships to technology are first and foremost dual natured

this is just speculation but I kinda think that the introduction and widespread availability of a technology that mimics human language in uncannily lifelike ways to create transferential relationships with no countertransference could be playing a role here
