On 23 August 1939, the ministers of foreign affairs of Germany, Joachim von Ribbentrop, and the Soviet Union, Vyacheslav Molotov, signed a non-aggression treaty in Moscow called the Ribbentrop-Molotov or Hitler-Stalin Pact.
