Thinking about where Machiavelli talks about Cesare Borgia putting Remiro d'Orco in charge of the Romagna. Remiro did a whole lot of cruel and unpopular stuff to pacify the country. And once it was all done, Borgia had him seized, sawed in half and laid out in a bloody heap in the public square.
