#Rennet
in my experience, the second there is too much milk in the kitchen, experiments in keeping it begin in earnest, exponentially so when two friends also have too much milk. the average group of 10-year-olds would be in constant danger of discovering rennet cheese under these circumstances.

I doubt rennet cheese was far behind for anyone with regular access to milk. Rennet cheese is only one additional step and adding seasonal plants or whatever for flavoring or medicine is a quick way to find what clabbers. Fast and firm clabber is tastiest; it becomes the goal quickly.

It's called "rennet," and it's made of the stomach juices of cows and we use it to make cheese . Maybe you've curd of it.
It's called taking a stand. Maybe you've demurred of it.
It’s called astigmatism. Maybe you’ve blurred of it.

Parmesan cheese is made from the bacteria in the 4th stomach of babies that have not eaten solid food.

Mushroom 🍄‍🟫 rennet is 100% more potent.

It’s a choice to be cruel.

specifically rennet cheese, not just souring-milk cheese :-)

I made cheese today! Second time trying, this time with citric acid instead of rennet. Much better.

Top scrattle and beer in the Blonde Beet, though if I’d known Rennet & Rind were doing Cheese Boards, and an Afternoon Cheese Tea! 😳

What's your biggest, akshewerly?

There's vegetarian rennet now? Cool.
“Since 2016, we have utilized fermentation-produced rennet that has Kosher and Halal certification and is vegetarian,” the company website says.

I want to see Sean Hannity’s head explode when they label a cheese both Halal and Kosher at the same time.

The label is 2022 but they’ve been halal since 2016.

It’s one reason the cheese tastes so good. Rennet tastes like super vomit. Halal rennet is vegetarian (cultured) and milder so the end product tastes cleaner.

I take my niece and nephew on their factory tour. It’s fun + good food.

Huh, just checked my fridge, and Supermarket Brand* bag-o-cheese, which lists using microbial rennet, doesn't have either halal or kosher markings on it.
I'd have expected both, but maybe they didn't bother or maybe there's pork in the factory or something.

That's not so easy.

Cheesemaking requires rennet, an enzyme from the stomach of a calf. Kosher cheese is typically made using a plant-based rennet substitute.

OMG 😱

Kosher, Halal and vegetarian.
Oh my

Its the rennet (the culture that makes cheese turn into cheese). It's traditionally made from cow intestines and then the cow would need to be slaughtered acording to halal practices. Tillamook uses vegetarian rennet (made via fermentation).

Apparently Twitter folks discovered some cheese has a halal label and that's worthy of boycott because... well, racism I guess?
Most supermarket cheese is naturally halal. They don't use rennet anymore (except really pricey stuff). You wanna boycott halal cheese, I got some news for you.

They're so dumb. As I understand it, all halal means is vegetable rennet is used and the cleanliness standards for the production facility are higher. With RFK Jr's food borne illnesses going around we NEED that.

Non animal rennet is a good thing no matter how you want to attach some dumb religious bs.
Rage baiting. Sht stirring. Mukraking.
That cheese is some kind of good. And good for you.😁

I wasn't aware that you could get rennet from pigs, my understanding was it was only in ruminants. I know halal also has specific rules for slaughter of animals (so like strict kosher, just because something isn't pork doesn't mean it's ok), no idea how that applies to animals killed for rennet.
