I had to use rentcafe at my last apartment and every single time I was shocked at how slowly it ran. I was never confident anything processed correctly. A great example of a vampiric middleman business that does nothing but piss everybody off

Bought a house about 10 years ago. Got a slightly big house, couple spare bedrooms in case of family moving in. We're currently paying a little under half the average (according to RentCafe) rent for my town, for a little over twice the average (ibid) space. Fixed rate. I will die in this house.
Seriously we need to stop viewing housing as an appreciating asset. The main value of buying a house is that the payment is fixed for a term of 30 years, which rent is not, and you own the house at the end of that time.
Here's my hot take about housing: a big problem is that the increasing value of an owner-occupied house is a lie. Houses are only useful as an asset if you have somewhere else to live. It doesn't matter if your house is worth 2x what you paid for it if where you want to move costs 2.5-3x that value!
