Earlier this year, the ASYV electronics class learned that a primary school near the Village needed a new school bell. So our students designed and developed an automated bell programmed to the primary school’s schedule, then installed it themselves. #TikkunOlam #RepairTheWorld

What a palaver.

This PlusNet Hub One was modified years back to run OpenWRT, but a f/w update yesterday failed & it went into a panic loop.

I cracked it open & used the serial header put in first time round to RAM boot OpenWRT & then scp'd in the upgrade & ran an update from console. All fixed!
Plusnet Hub One with PCB exposed and a serial-TTL adapter plugged into a DIY header on the board. Two blue LEDs lit means the unit has booted OK!

Took a "junk" GBA SP, gave it some TLC and now it's alive. Some exciting things happening here.
Amateur at soldering BUT did successful swap the volume slider for the 2nd gen so it could have the swapped cover.

Another CRT repaired! This is a Vega 342, made in the USSR for the UK market.

The issue was a failing v-hold, as it was only locking at 25Hz. A faulty resistor was causing this, so I replaced it with a slightly lower value and it works again.

Wasn't able to composite mod it this time sadly.
The screen issue on the Vega 342. It was locking its v-hold to only 25Hz, causing horrendous flicker and a double image. The faulty resistor which was removed from the mainboard. It was supposed to be 180K Ohms, but my multimeter (not pictured) was reading over 300K Ohms! The new replacement 39K Ohm resistor. I went with a lower value to help keep the set in sync. The component markings on the board are in Cyrillic. The screen issue has been mostly fixed, and now properly locks to 50Hz. There's still a bit cutoff at the top which I wasn't able to fix, even when adjusting the v-size as there was a bright white line at the top, so I hid it off-screen to not burn it into the tube.

Another successful soldering project done! This time I repaired a GC controller by replacing a cord that had been chewed in half. Had to undo six soldering points to remove the old and then redo them for the new. All buttons register!
